TRACKON TPS
(TRACKON PALM SURVEYOR)
TPS is a great tool which comes in the category of “Mobile Mapping Systems” and
lets you collect field data. Even a simple GPS like the Garmin® etrex™ also lets you
do that, but storing on-site attribute data (such as some description of the site being
surveyed, or description about the road centerline being surveyed etc.) in a
“traditional” GPS like the one mentioned above, this process is so cumbersome/time
consuming that its almost useless for this purpose.
So you have the TPS, which is a rather simple tool, but is very powerful, since it has
been developed with a FOCUS to enable the field data collector to gather attribute
data about his spatial location with ease and speed. You will gradually see why.

The PDA in which SPS is installed either has a GPS in-built or the GPS comes as an
attachment. The SPS software, once installed on the Pocket PC (a Pocket PC is a PDA
which is loaded with the Windows Mobile software) simply connects to the GPS and
provides the user 2 simple, large and easily ‘touchable” buttons to control and add
marking of position and attribute data.
